EXTRA MURAL

A HUMANCENTRIC COURTYARD DESIGN APPROACH WITH A CAMPUS NATURE STATION

PROJECT STATEMENT: The aim of this project was to produce a more viable design alternative for the common courtyard shared by the Architecture and Arts buildings on the Texas Tech University Campus. Initiated by a generous donation of three statues, through this project, we produce a collaborative design for a shared space to house and display the statues; to promote the pedagogical aims of both Departments; and to provide space for gathering, studying and focused leisure for students, staff, families and faculty of Texas Tech. In pursuit of the production of this design, we were exposed to various critical views on issues surrounding art and display, space and place-making, and community and environmental stewardship. we used advanced technologies for visualization, as well as for spatial mapping and spatial narrative.
