A SUSTAINABLE TRAIL DESIGN FOR LUBBOCK CANYON LAKE

2022 Texas ASLA Student Awards (Merit)
The Texas Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects
PROJECT STATEMENT: The Lubbock Canyon Lakes district contains many of the city’s public open spaces. Recent efforts by the city to develop a masterplan for this area have created renewed interest and opportunities for the design community to enhance the function, resilience and vibrancy of the existing canyon lakes while anticipating various future scenarios for growth and development. Working in collaboration with outside partners ( HALFF and Associates),, our goal was to understand this landscape and imagine innovative landscape scenarios that enhance the connectivity between various canyon lakes and parks into a cohesive network of vibrant green spaces.
OBJECTIVES: There were four modules that built a final cohesive trail master plan. The first module included site inventory and analysis to understand the local policy frameworks involved in public space development in the city of Lubbock. The second module considered various existing and potential landscape typologies and landscape maintenance regimes that influenced the trail design and public space enhancement of this region. The third and fourth modules included team-based project development working from schematic design (SD) to Design Development (DD) and final synthesis.
